20,000 for building permit, overseer suspended

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A grade overseer who faced charges of having received bribe for granting building permit was suspended here on Friday.
The superintending engineer suspended G Ratnakaran as part of the ongoing probe into a complaint raised by a woman from Mudavanmugal.
According to the complaint, Ratnakaran accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000 for granting building permit.The issue was brought to the notice of mayor V K Prasanth following which he had ordered an internal probe.
The superintending engineer issued the suspension order based on enquiry report filed by corporation secretary. As regarding corruption complaints in Fort office, mayor has directed that the officials against whom allegations have surfaced should be transferred from Fort office.
Recently the engineering wing had witnessed a series of transfer after complaints of corruption rose against various officials.
